The Space Launch System (SLS) is planned to be a US super heavy-lift expendable launch vehicle, which has been under development since its announcement in 2011.It is the primary launch vehicle of NASA's deep space exploration plans, including the planned manned lunar flights of the Artemis program and a possible follow-on human mission to Mars. The mission was scheduled to launch in July 2020, then postponed to 2022. NASA is sending a helicopter to Mars. NASA will land astronauts on the Moon by 2024 on the Artemis III mission and about once a year thereafter. Artemis II, the first crewed flight test of the Space Launch System Orion, is targeted for launch in 2022.
